Fishing
Below is a list of some of the stuff you may need while at the K/O
Lodge. This list has things on it that you probably won't use, but
Murphy's law is alive and well: The one thing you leave at home is the one
thing you will desperately need! For hunting gear, please check the list
under the hunting packages section.
Fishing Gear: For bass and walleye a medium or light/medium
action rod with 6 to 10 lb. test will suit best. A heavier rod and 14 to
17 lb. test with a 6" steel leader should be used for Pike and Musky.
I don't recommend using a leader for bass as it creates unnatural movements in
your lure that reduces your chances of a strike. Bass will respond to a
wide range of lures such as spinner baits (1/2 oz.); Mepps (#3 or #4); floating
and suspending Rapalas (3 to 6"), both one-pieces and jointed in a variety
of colors; 4" twister tails with 1/4 and 1/8 oz. jig heads in white and
lighter colors; 4 to 6" Zara Spooks; Slug-Os (4 to 6") in natural
colors; bright colored rubber worms (4 to 6") and a good mix of husky
jerks; buzz baits; shad raps; rattle traps; tiny torpedoes; erie derrys; jitter
bugs. For fishing live bait you should have regular and weedless hooks
(1/0, 2/0, and 3/0), and slip sinkers (1/16, 1/8, and 1/4 oz.).
Other equipment you should include are sun glasses, sun tan lotion, a good
coverage hat, swimwear, rain gear, windbreaker, flannel/long sleeve shirts,
extra shoes and a camera of course. The temperature can climb into the
mid-90s during the day and cool off into the mid-50s at night in the summer, so
bring clothing for a wide range of weather possibilities. If you are up
early spring or late fall, expect temperatures to be much cooler. It is
not unheard of for us to get frost on the ground in October.
If you have a vehicle with a trailer hitch, ensure that you have a 1 &
7/8 ball with you. This will allow you to trailer our Lund bass boats and
v-bottom boats into the back lakes and expand your fishing options.
